The Priory CofE Primary School

PUPIL PREMIUM & ELIGIBILITY

What is Pupil Premium?

Pupil Premium is an opportunity for your child to be given extra support in school, in addition to what they already get. Pupil Premium allows us to continue to meet the individual needs of each child on a personal basis, looking at how we can help them shine and reach their potential. The government believe this funding is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligble for free school meals and their peers. This funding is allocated to schools to work with these pupils who have been registered for free school meals at any point in the last six years as well as for children who have been looked after for more than six months, adopted from care and children of service personnel.

How to apply and eligibility

London Borough of Merton is encouraging all families to register for the Pupil Premium scheme, even if they do not currently meet the eligibility criteria. Please see the Merton webpage for further information on how to apply.

If you are unable to complete an online form, please see The School Office and we will provide you with a paper form.

You can check your eligibility here.

Application, eligibility and benefits for Pupil Premium are handled discreetly, confidentially and flexibly. For example, if you choose not to access Free School Meals, you may still wish your child to receive other benefits.

How does The Priory use Pupil Premium Funding?

At The Priory, we support all of our pupils by providing high-quality teaching, supplemented by interventions to support vulnerable learns. The leadership team and governing body monitor the impact of all spending and interventions. We track every pupil, analysing attainment and progress and how we can support them in both their learning and wellbeing. Our goal is that every pupil leaves The priory feeling happy, loved, confident and ready for the next stage in life. Evidence suggests that pupil premium spending is most effective when schools use a tiered approach, targeting spending across 3 areas, with a particular focus on teaching.

You can find our Pupil Premium Strategy here

1. Teaching

Investing in high-quality teaching, for example:

  • training and professional development for teachers
  • recruitment and retention
  • support for teachers early in their careers

2. Targeted academic support

Additional support for some pupils focused on their specific needs, for example:

  • one-to-one tuition
  • small group tuition
  • speech and language therapy
  • external agency support
  • access to technology to support learning

3. Wider approaches

Support for non-academic issues that impact success in school, such as attendance, behaviour and social and emotional challenges. For example:

  • school breakfast clubs
  • subsidised clubs
  • counselling and interventions to support emotional health and wellbeing
  • help with the cost of educational trips, residentials and visits
  • opportunities to expand their cultural capital through experiences
